Gabbeh takes its name from a Persian word meaning raw or natural, a nod to the honest, tribal character of these weavings. Here the design is built from simple, bold bands, a plain camel centre framed by brown borders dotted and pinstriped in the tribal manner, letting colour and proportion carry the whole composition. The warm, earthy palette is quietly versatile, at home in a hallway, bedroom or reading corner. Small variations in colour and weave are the mark of a genuine handmade rug, the trace of a single weaver rather than a machine.
