Gabbeh takes its name from a Persian word meaning raw or natural, a nod to the honest, tribal character of these weavings. Here the weaver works in soft horizontal bands, blending denim and sky blue with flecks of undyed cream so the surface shifts like water and light. This gentle abrash, the natural striation of small-batch dyeing, gives the blue a living depth no machine can copy. Small variations in colour and weave are the mark of a genuine handmade rug, the trace of a single weaver rather than a machine.
